A comprehensive three-part dynamic stretch sequence targeting the entire lower body and hip complex through lunging and twisting movements to improve mobility and reduce stiffness.
Instructions
- Begin by stepping forward into a deep lunge position with your front foot flat on the ground and back knee lowered toward the floor. Hold this stretch for 10-20 seconds to stretch your hip flexors and quads.
- Place your arm on the same side as your front leg on the ground with the elbow next to the foot. Your other hand should be placed on the ground parallel to your lead leg to help support you. Hold this position for 10-20 seconds to stretch your hip flexors and open your chest.
- Place your hands on either side of your front foot, raise the toes of your front foot off the ground, and straighten your front leg while keeping your hips level. Hold this position for 10-20 seconds to stretch your hamstrings and calves.
- Return to the standing position and repeat the entire three-part sequence for the opposite side.
Tips
- This is one of the most effective warm-up and mobility sequences available.
- Move slowly and deliberately through each phase; this is not a speed-focused exercise.
- Maintain steady breathing throughout; never hold your breath during stretches.
- The stretch should feel challenging but not painful; work within your current mobility range.
- Perform this sequence before training sessions to prepare your body for exercise.
