A low-to-high cable rotation that drives the handle diagonally across the body from hip height to the opposite shoulder, targeting the obliques through full torso rotation.

Instructions

  1. Set the cable pulley to the lowest position and attach a single handle.
  2. Stand sideways to the machine with feet shoulder-width apart and knees slightly bent.
  3. Grip the handle with both hands at hip level on the side closest to the machine.
  4. Keep your arms relatively straight and brace your core.
  5. Rotate your torso — not just your arms — to drive the handle diagonally upward and across your body toward the opposite shoulder.
  6. Pivot the back foot naturally to allow full hip and torso rotation.
  7. Pause briefly at the top, feeling the obliques contract.
  8. Return to the starting position in a slow, controlled manner.
  9. Complete all reps on one side, then reposition and repeat on the other side.

Tips

  • Lead the movement with torso rotation; your arms should act as an extension of the core, not the primary mover.
  • Keep your hips driving the motion — think of it as a hip-and-torso turn, not an arm swing.
  • Maintain a slight bend in the elbows throughout; fully locked-out arms shift stress away from the core.
  • Control the eccentric return to maximise time under tension in the obliques.
  • Use equal reps on both sides to prevent rotational imbalances.
  • Lighter weight with full rotation beats heavier weight with a short, arm-dominated arc.

Recommended starting values

Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
