Secondary Muscles
A chest isolation machine that targets the pectoral muscles through a horizontal adduction movement. Excellent for chest development with minimal shoulder and tricep involvement.
Instructions
- Sit in the machine with your back firmly against the backrest.
- Adjust the seat height so the handles are at mid-chest height.
- Grip the handles with both hands, allowing your arms to be positioned out to the sides.
- Place your feet flat on the floor or use the footrest for stability.
- Engage your core and pull the handles together in front of your chest.
- Achieve a full range of motion, bringing the handles together at the center line of your body.
- Squeeze your chest at the contracted position briefly.
- Return the handles to the starting position with controlled movement.
Tips
- The machine isolates the chest effectively without requiring significant stability.
- Maintain contact with the backrest throughout the movement for proper form.
- The horizontal adduction movement specifically targets the pectoral muscles.
- Use a controlled tempo, taking 2-3 seconds on both the push and return phases.
- This isolation movement is excellent when performed after heavy compound pressing movements.
- Higher reps (12-15) work well for chest development and muscular endurance.
- Keep a slight bend in your elbows throughout the movement to protect your shoulder joints.
Recommended starting values
Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
