Primary Muscles

An advanced calisthenics static hold on rings where the body is inverted and horizontal with a tucked leg position, requiring exceptional strength and body control.

Instructions

  1. Mount the rings and begin from a support position with straight arms.
  2. Allow your body to gradually rotate backward, shifting your weight to your hands.
  3. As you rotate, tuck your knees toward your chest to reduce the leverage demand.
  4. Continue rotating until your body is nearly horizontal, parallel to the ground.
  5. Maintain a strong grip on the rings, keeping your shoulders packed and engaged.
  6. Hold this horizontal position with your knees tucked for time, breathing steadily.
  7. Return to vertical by rotating forward and bending your legs to allow safe descent.

Tips

  • This is an elite-level movement requiring significant preparation
  • Work progressively through easier leverage positions before attempting this
  • Use an athlete with coaching or extensive ring training experience
  • The tucked position reduces leverage; you’ll need substantial upper body strength to maintain this hold
  • Keep your shoulders protracted (forward) and engaged throughout
  • This movement requires core and lat strength beyond standard exercises
  • Only practice this 1-2 times per week due to the high intensity
  • Build toward this from easier back lever progressions over many months

Recommended starting values

Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
