Ring Front Lever
An elite calisthenics static hold on rings where the body is horizontal and facing forward, requiring exceptional pressing strength and core rigidity.
Instructions
- Begin from a ring support hold with arms straight and shoulders engaged.
- Gradually shift your weight forward, allowing your body to tip toward horizontal positioning.
- Continue shifting until your body is parallel to the ground, facing downward.
- Maintain this horizontal position through pressing force and maximum core tension.
- Keep your shoulders packed and engaged throughout the hold.
- Breathe steadily and maintain rigid body position.
- Return to vertical by pressing upward and reducing forward lean.
Tips
- This is an elite movement requiring extensive preparation and progressive training
- Build through progressions including straps, resistance bands, and tuck positions
- Your shoulders must be exceptionally strong and stable; seek proper coaching
- Only attempt after months or years of dedicated ring training
- Maintain maximum core bracing throughout the hold
- Your entire body must be rigid; any sagging indicates insufficient strength
- Practice 1-2 times per week maximum due to extreme demand
- Many athletes train for 2-3+ years before achieving a stable front lever hold
- Start with straps or resistance bands to learn the position safely
- A full front lever is one of the most difficult calisthenics movements
- Consider working with a gymnastics coach experienced in lever progressions
