Side Bend Stretch (Dumbbell)
A stretching exercise targeting the obliques and lateral core muscles using dumbbell weight to deepen the side bend stretch.
Instructions
- Stand with feet slightly wider than shoulder-width apart, holding a dumbbell in one hand.
- Keep your other arm relaxed at your side or lightly resting on your leg.
- Maintain an upright posture and engage your core gently.
- Slowly lean to the side holding the dumbbell, allowing the weight to gently deepen the stretch.
- Feel a stretch along the entire side of your body from your obliques to your lats.
- Hold the stretch for 15-30 seconds while breathing deeply.
- Return to the starting position and repeat on the opposite side.
Tips
- This is a stretching exercise; do not perform rapid or bouncing movements.
- Keep the stretch mild to moderate; avoid forcing excessive range of motion.
- Breathe deeply and relax into the stretch rather than forcing it.
- The dumbbell provides gentle leverage to deepen the stretch—use appropriate weight.
- Perform this stretch after your workout when muscles are warm and pliable.
- This stretch is excellent for improving lateral flexibility and reducing soreness.
- Hold each side for equal time to maintain symmetrical flexibility.
