An overhead pressing movement performed in a half-kneeling or side-facing position, pressing the kettlebell laterally to engage the shoulders and core.
Instructions
- Assume a half-kneeling position with the opposite leg down from your pressing arm (right knee down for left-arm press).
- Hold a kettlebell at shoulder height with the bell resting against your shoulder, elbow tucked.
- Maintain an upright torso and ensure your hips are square forward.
- Press the kettlebell overhead by extending your arm fully, pressing at a slight angle away from your body.
- Lock out your arm at the top while maintaining shoulder stability.
- Lower the kettlebell back to shoulder height with control.
- Complete all repetitions on one side before switching to the opposite arm and leg configuration.
Tips
- The half-kneeling position challenges your core stability and balance; maintain an upright posture throughout.
- Keep your hips square forward; do not rotate or lean away from the pressing arm.
- The lateral pressing angle emphasizes the lateral shoulder muscles and oblique core.
- Engage your core muscles to resist any lateral flexion or rotation.
- Keep your back knee slightly off the ground for better balance and stability.
- This variation is excellent for addressing unilateral shoulder strength and stability.
- Avoid excessive spinal extension at the top of the movement.
Recommended starting values
