calisthenics Secondary Muscles
An advanced explosive calisthenics movement combining a pull-up and dip to move from below the bar to above it in one fluid motion.
Instructions
- Hang from a pull-up bar with a shoulder-width pronated grip (palms facing away).
- Begin by explosively pulling your body upward, driving with your lats and shoulders.
- Pull until your chest approaches the bar, generating upward momentum.
- As your torso approaches the bar, transition from the pulling motion to a dip position.
- Press through your hands to extend your elbows and press your body above the bar.
- Continue until your body is fully above the bar with your arms extended.
- Control the descent by lowering yourself back to the starting hang position.
- Repeat for the prescribed number of repetitions.
Tips
- This movement requires significant pulling and pressing strength and takes considerable practice to achieve.
- The transition from pull to press is the most technically demanding phase of the movement.
- Generate maximum upward momentum from the pull to facilitate the press transition.
- Start with assisted variations using resistance bands if needed.
- Practice pull-ups and dips separately to build the requisite strength.
- A wider grip may feel more comfortable for some athletes during the press phase.
- Maintain control throughout the descent to avoid impact on the shoulders.
- This is an elite-level calisthenics movement that demonstrates exceptional upper body strength.
