A yoga pose that stretches the hamstrings, hip flexors, and side body while improving balance and flexibility.
Instructions
- Stand with your feet about 3-4 feet apart, with your weight evenly distributed
- Point your right foot outward at 90 degrees and angle your left foot inward slightly
- Extend both arms to shoulder height, creating a straight line from fingertip to fingertip
- Lean your torso to the right, hinging at the hips while keeping your chest open and shoulders stacked
- Lower your right hand toward your right shin or the floor, depending on your flexibility
- Extend your left arm toward the ceiling, creating a straight line from your right hand to your left fingertips
- Turn your gaze toward your left hand or keep your neck neutral
- Hold the position while breathing deeply for 20-30 seconds, then repeat on the opposite side
Tips
- This pose provides an excellent stretch for the hamstrings and hip flexors
- Keep both feet firmly grounded for stability and proper alignment
- Avoid collapsing forward; maintain an open chest and engaged core
- Can be performed on a yoga mat for comfort
- If touching the floor is difficult, rest your hand on a block or your shin
- The stretch can be deepened by increasing your stance width gradually over time
