A progressive variation of the human flag that builds toward the full hold, using modified techniques and body angles.
Instructions
- Stand sideways next to a vertical pole or stable post.
- Grip the pole with both hands, one above and one below.
- Use a modified angle to reduce difficulty (keep knees bent or body at an angle).
- Press away from the pole to lift your body off the ground partially.
- Maintain a straight line through your body from head to knees.
- Hold for the desired duration, gradually increasing difficulty.
- Progress by extending legs further or increasing hold time.
Tips
- This is a crucial stepping stone toward the full human flag.
- Bend your knees significantly to reduce body weight leverage.
- Use your legs as assistance rather than full suspension.
- Build shoulder and core strength gradually over time.
- Progress slowly to avoid injury and ensure proper form development.
Recommended starting values
Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
| Goal | Sets | Hold |
|---|---|---|
| Gain strength | 3 | 5 s |
| Build muscle | 3 | 10 s |
| Build endurance | 3 | 15 s |
