An isolation exercise that targets the hamstrings by curling the leg against cable resistance.

Instructions

  1. Set the cable pulley to the lowest position and attach a single cuff attachment or ankle strap.
  2. Stand facing the cable machine, securing the cuff around your ankle.
  3. Hold onto a stable structure for balance, keeping your torso upright.
  4. With a slight knee bend, curl your foot toward your glutes against the cable resistance.
  5. Pause briefly at the top, squeezing your hamstring.
  6. Return to the starting position in a controlled manner without fully straightening your leg.

Tips

  • Maintain an upright posture and avoid leaning forward or backward excessively.
  • Keep your standing leg slightly bent and stable throughout the movement.
  • Control the eccentric portion of the movement to maximize muscle engagement.
  • Ensure the cuff is positioned securely above your ankle for safety.
  • Use a weight that allows for full range of motion and proper form.
  • Perform equal repetitions on both sides for balanced leg development.

Recommended starting values

Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
