Shrug Row (Dumbbell)
A compound movement combining a shrug with a row to develop both traps and back muscle strength simultaneously. Elevate your shoulders while rowing the dumbbells toward your hips.
Instructions
- Stand upright with feet hip-width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand at your sides with arms extended, palms facing inward.
- Maintain a slight bend in your knees and a neutral spine throughout the movement.
- Initiate the movement by shrugging your shoulders upward, elevating the dumbbells slightly.
- Simultaneously, bend your elbows and row the dumbbells toward your hips, driving your elbows backward.
- Pull the dumbbells as high as possible, squeezing your traps and back muscles at the top.
- Lower the dumbbells back to the starting position in a controlled manner.
- Repeat for the prescribed number of repetitions.
Tips
- Coordinate the shrug and row movements simultaneously for maximum efficiency.
- Drive your elbows back rather than focusing on hand position.
- Keep your torso stable and avoid excessive forward lean.
- This compound movement efficiently targets multiple back muscles in a single exercise.
- Perform with moderate weight to ensure proper form and coordination.
- This exercise is excellent for improving posture and shoulder stability.
