An explosive battle rope exercise where the ropes are slammed downward with maximum power, building upper-body explosive strength and core stability.

Instructions

  1. Position yourself at the center point of anchored battle ropes, approximately 15-20 feet away, taking one end in each hand.
  2. Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent, holding the ropes at hip height.
  3. Explosively raise both ropes overhead, extending your arms fully.
  4. Slam both ropes downward with maximum force, driving the ropes into the ground.
  5. Immediately retrieve the ropes and repeat for the prescribed time duration.

Tips

  • Generate power from your core and shoulders, not just your arms.
  • The explosive nature of the movement makes this excellent for power development.
  • Maintain a stable stance by keeping your feet planted throughout.
  • Control your breathing; exhale on the slam, inhale during the recovery.
  • This is a high-intensity exercise; use shorter time intervals and adequate rest between sets.

Recommended starting values

Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
