Rollout From Bench (Barbell)Rollout From Bench (Barbell)

An advanced core exercise where you extend your body by rolling a loaded barbell forward from a kneeling position on a bench.

Instructions

  1. Place a loaded barbell on the ground, near the end of a bench. Kneel with both legs on the bench, and take a medium to narrow grip on the barbell. This will be your starting position.
  2. Extend through the hips to slowly roll the bar forward. As you roll out, flex the shoulder to roll the bar above your head. Ensure that your arms remain extended throughout the movement.
  3. When the bar has been moved as far forward as possible, return to the starting position.

Tips

  • Control the movement throughout both the extension and retraction phases.
  • Keep your core engaged to prevent excessive arching of the lower back.
  • The movement should be slow and controlled rather than explosive.

Recommended starting values

Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
