Standing Oblique Crunch (Band)
Standing isolation exercise using a resistance band to target the oblique muscles and lateral core.
Instructions
- Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, with a resistance band anchored at shoulder height on one side.
- Hold the band with both hands at your chest, keeping your elbows bent.
- Maintain an upright posture with your core engaged throughout the movement.
- Crunch diagonally toward the anchor point, bending at your waist and contracting your obliques.
- Keep your hips stable and avoid rotating your entire torso—focus on the lateral crunch.
- Return to the starting position with control and repeat for all prescribed reps.
- Switch sides and repeat the exercise on the opposite oblique.
Tips
- Focus on crunching through your obliques rather than rotating your entire torso
- Keep your hips and lower body stable; movement should occur primarily at the waist
- Move in a slow, controlled manner to maximize oblique muscle engagement
- Breathe out as you crunch, breathe in as you return to the start
- Feel the side of your core contracting with each repetition
