Sumo Squat (Cable)
A squat variation with a wide stance and cable resistance, emphasizing glute and adductor engagement. Provides constant tension throughout the range of motion.
Instructions
- Stand facing a cable machine with the handle at chest height in both hands.
- Position your feet wider than shoulder-width apart with toes pointed outward at 45 degrees.
- Keep your chest up and core engaged throughout the movement.
- Lower your body by bending at your hips and knees, maintaining an upright torso.
- Descend until your thighs are parallel to the ground or slightly below.
- Keep your weight in your heels and knees tracking over your toes.
- Drive through your heels to return to the standing position.
Tips
- The wide stance targets the glutes and inner thighs more than standard squats.
- Keep your torso upright and avoid excessive forward lean.
- The constant cable tension makes this excellent for muscular endurance and strength.
- Descend slowly to feel the full contraction in your glutes and adductors.
- This variation is excellent for developing glute strength and addressing movement imbalances.
