Secondary Muscles
A deadlift variation performed with a wide stance and toes turned outward, emphasizing the quadriceps and adductors while reducing lower back stress.
Instructions
- Stand with your feet positioned wider than shoulder-width apart, toes turned outward approximately 30-45 degrees.
- Hold a kettlebell with both hands in front of your body, arms extended.
- Keep your shoulders packed and your chest up throughout the movement.
- Initiate the deadlift by bending your knees while maintaining a neutral spine.
- Lower the kettlebell between your legs while keeping it close to your body.
- Your torso should remain relatively upright due to the wide stance positioning.
- Drive through your heels and extend your hips and knees to return to the starting position.
- Complete all repetitions with controlled, deliberate movements.
Tips
- The wide stance reduces the demand on your lower back while increasing quadriceps engagement.
- Keep your knees tracking in line with your toes throughout the movement.
- Maintain a relatively vertical torso throughout; this variation naturally promotes more upright positioning.
- Keep the kettlebell close to your body throughout the entire range of motion.
- Your adductors and inner thighs will be engaged in this variation; expect some muscle soreness if new to this movement.
- The reduced lower back demand makes this an excellent variation for those with lower back concerns.
- Focus on smooth, controlled movements rather than explosive lifting.
