Secondary Muscles

An isolation exercise targeting the rear deltoids and middle back by performing a fly movement with dumbbells while bent forward. This strengthens the posterior shoulder and improves posture.

Instructions

  1. Stand with feet hip-width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand with a slight bend in your knees.
  2. Hinge at the hips, bending forward until your torso is nearly parallel to the ground, letting the dumbbells hang naturally with arms extended below your shoulders.
  3. Keep a slight bend in your elbows throughout the movement.
  4. Exhale and raise the dumbbells out to your sides in an arc motion, leading with your elbows, until your arms are parallel to the ground.
  5. Pause briefly at the top, squeezing your rear deltoids and middle back.
  6. Inhale and lower the dumbbells back to the starting position in a controlled manner.
  7. Repeat for the prescribed number of repetitions.

Tips

  • Maintain a rigid torso position; avoid rotating or moving your legs as you raise the dumbbells.
  • Focus on initiating the movement from your elbows rather than your hands.
  • Keep the slight bend in your elbows constant throughout to emphasize the rear deltoids.
  • Pause at the top of the movement to maximize muscle activation.
  • Use lighter weights than you would for a chest press to perform this movement correctly.
  • This exercise is excellent for improving shoulder stability and correcting rounded-shoulder posture.

Recommended starting values
