A triceps-emphasis pushing movement on rings with hands positioned closer than shoulder width, combining triceps engagement with chest work in an unstable environment.

Instructions

  1. Begin in a push-up position with hands gripping the rings positioned close together, approximately hands-width apart or narrower.
  2. Lower your body by bending your elbows, bringing them closer to your torso (not flared out).
  3. Keep your elbows tight throughout the descent, emphasizing triceps engagement.
  4. Lower until your chest nearly touches the rings or your elbows reach approximately 90 degrees.
  5. Press through your hands and triceps to drive yourself back to the starting position.
  6. Keep your body rigid and straight throughout the movement.
  7. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Tips

  • The close grip position emphasizes triceps more than a wide-grip push-up
  • Rings add significant instability, increasing core demand and triceps challenge
  • Keep your elbows tucked near your body throughout; avoid flaring outward
  • Your shoulders must remain packed and engaged for stability
  • Rings will rotate inward; actively prevent this by maintaining firm hand positioning
  • Perform 5-15 repetitions depending on difficulty and strength level
  • This is more challenging than standard ring push-ups due to the narrow hand position
  • Progress toward one-arm ring push-ups by building unilateral strength
  • This complements wider-grip ring movements for balanced development
  • Maintain constant tension and control; avoid momentum-based movement
