Secondary Muscles
A full-body compound movement combining a squat with an overhead press, using leg drive to assist the pressing movement.
Instructions
- Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, holding one or two kettlebells at shoulder height.
- Position the kettlebells with the bells resting against your shoulders and your elbows tucked underneath.
- Squat down by bending your knees and hips, keeping your chest upright.
- Descend until your thighs are parallel to the ground or slightly below.
- In one explosive movement, drive through your heels and extend your knees and hips powerfully.
- Use the momentum generated from your legs to assist the pressing motion.
- As you rise from the squat, press the kettlebell(s) overhead by extending your arms fully.
- Lock out the kettlebell(s) overhead at the top of the movement.
- Lower the kettlebell(s) back to shoulder height as you descend into the next squat.
- Repeat for the desired number of repetitions without pausing between reps.
Tips
- Use the leg drive to generate momentum and assist the pressing portion of the movement.
- Coordinate the transition from the squat to the press seamlessly.
- Keep your core braced throughout to maintain spinal stability during the overhead press.
- Avoid excessive forward lean when pressing; your upper body should remain relatively upright.
- This is an efficient full-body exercise that combines lower and upper body strength development.
- Maintain a consistent tempo throughout, moving deliberately and with control.
- Breathe in during the squat and exhale powerfully as you drive upward and press.
