A compound pressing movement using a sled machine where you push handles laterally or at angles, developing shoulder and core strength.

Instructions

  1. Load the sled machine with appropriate weight.
  2. Sit upright with your back against the backrest, feet flat on the floor.
  3. Grasp one handle with both hands or alternate handles individually based on machine design.
  4. Position the handle(s) at chest height to start.
  5. Press the handle laterally or at a slight angle by extending your arms.
  6. Drive the handle away from your body until your arm is nearly fully extended.
  7. Pause briefly and feel the contraction in your shoulders and chest.
  8. Slowly return the handle to chest height with control.
  9. Repeat for the prescribed number of repetitions on both sides.

Tips

  • This movement develops unilateral strength and addresses strength imbalances.
  • Keep your torso upright and against the pad throughout the movement.
  • The lateral pressing angle engages the shoulders and chest differently than forward pressing.
  • Control both the pressing and returning phases for maximum muscle engagement.
  • Use a weight that allows strict form and controlled movement throughout.
  • This variation is excellent for developing lateral shoulder stability.
