Pallof Press With RotationPallof Press With Rotation

A dynamic variation of the Pallof press that adds rotational demand to the core for enhanced abdominal and oblique activation.

Instructions

  1. Connect a standard handle to a cable machine positioned at shoulder height.
  2. Stand perpendicular to the cable with the tower on your side.
  3. Step away from the tower approximately arm’s length away with the cable creating tension.
  4. Pull the cable handle into your chest with one hand, then grab it with both hands.
  5. Position your feet hip-width apart and engage your core.
  6. Press the cable away from your chest with both hands, fully extending your arms.
  7. Once fully extended, rotate your torso away from the cable tower by approximately 45 degrees.
  8. Return to the forward-facing, neutral position slowly and with control.
  9. Bring the handle back to your chest.
  10. Repeat to the desired number of repetitions.
  11. Reposition and repeat the series on the opposite side.

Tips

  • Keep your hips straight and stationary throughout - all rotation comes from your torso.
  • The rotation adds significant core demand; start with lighter weight than a standard Pallof press.
  • Maintain rigid arms during the rotation phase to maximize core activation.
  • This variation combines anti-rotation with pro-rotation for complete core development.
  • Breathe out during the press and rotation phases, breathe in during the return.

Recommended starting values

Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
