A rotational core exercise where a medicine ball is moved diagonally across the body to develop anti-rotation strength and explosive power.

Instructions

  1. Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a medicine ball with both hands.
  2. Raise the medicine ball to one side of your head at shoulder height.
  3. Explosively rotate and swing the medicine ball diagonally across your body.
  4. Bring the ball down to the opposite hip level, twisting through your core.
  5. Control the movement and return to the starting position.
  6. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions, then switch sides.

Tips

  • Drive the movement through your core rotation rather than your arms.
  • Keep your feet planted and stable throughout the movement.
  • This exercise develops rotational power useful for athletic movements.
  • Can be performed with or without explosive speed depending on goals.

Recommended starting values

Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
