strength Primary Muscles
A rotational core exercise where a bulgarian bag is spun around the body or rotated through a transverse plane, challenging rotational strength and stability.
Instructions
- Stand upright with feet shoulder-width apart, holding the bulgarian bag against your chest with both hands.
- Keep your core tight and your lower body stable, minimizing hip and knee movement.
- Rotate the bag around your torso, moving it across your body in a controlled circular motion.
- Rotate fully from one side across your front to the opposite side, then reverse direction.
- Maintain upright posture throughout the movement, using only rotational force through your core.
- Complete all rotations in one direction before switching to the opposite direction.
Tips
- This exercise develops rotational power and anti-rotational stability simultaneously.
- Keep your hips and knees stable; all movement should originate from core rotation, not hip movement.
- Move the bag at a controlled pace, avoiding momentum that reduces muscle engagement.
- The bag’s irregular weight distribution increases the stability demands of the exercise.
- This variation is excellent for developing functional core strength applicable to sports and daily activities.
- Breathing is essential; maintain steady respiration throughout the rotational movement.
Recommended starting values
Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
