A rotational compound exercise that develops core strength and power by rotating the torso against cable resistance from low to high.

Instructions

  1. Set the cable pulley to a low position and attach a single handle or rope attachment.
  2. Stand with your side facing the machine, feet shoulder-width apart and knees slightly bent.
  3. Grasp the handle with both hands at waist level, across your body.
  4. Rotate your torso, pulling the handle diagonally upward and across your body toward the opposite shoulder.
  5. Pause briefly at the top of the movement, feeling the obliques contract.
  6. Return to the starting position in a controlled manner and repeat on the same side before switching.

Tips

  • Keep your arms relatively straight and allow your core and torso to drive the movement.
  • Maintain a stable, upright posture with engaged core throughout the exercise.
  • Move in a smooth, controlled manner; avoid using momentum.
  • Ensure equal repetitions on both sides for balanced core development.
  • This exercise can be performed from various angles: low-to-high, high-to-low, and horizontal.
  • Focus on rotating from your core rather than swinging your arms.

Recommended starting values

Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
