Kneeling Crunch (Band)
An abdominal isolation exercise using band resistance to provide constant tension during spinal flexion and core contraction.
Instructions
- Anchor a resistance band at approximately head height above you.
- Kneel facing away from the anchor point, grasping the band end or handle at the sides of your head.
- Keep your hands near your head throughout the movement.
- Crunch forward, contracting your abdominal muscles as you fold your torso.
- Squeeze your abs at the bottom position, feeling the contraction.
- Return to an upright position with control and repeat for the desired reps.
Tips
- Keep tension in the band throughout the entire range of motion.
- The movement should come from spinal flexion, not pulling with your arms.
- Move slowly and deliberately, emphasizing the contraction of the abdominal muscles.
- Avoid pulling your neck forward; maintain a neutral neck position.
- This exercise provides constant tension throughout the movement, maximizing muscle engagement.
- Perform 12-15 reps per set for optimal core endurance and muscle development.
Recommended starting values
Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
