Primary Muscles

A core stability exercise where the barbell in a landmine resists rotational forces, building anti-rotation core strength.

Instructions

  1. Stand sideways to a landmine with feet shoulder-width apart and knees slightly bent.
  2. Hold the barbell end at chest height with both hands, positioned perpendicular to your body.
  3. Press the barbell away from your body while resisting rotation of your torso.
  4. Maintain a stable stance and prevent your hips and shoulders from rotating.
  5. Return the barbell to your chest and repeat for all reps on one side.
  6. Turn around and repeat on the opposite side.

Tips

  • This exercise develops rotational stability and core strength
  • Focus on resisting rotation rather than generating power
  • Keep your feet firmly planted throughout the movement
  • Engage your entire core to stabilize against the rotational force
  • Start with moderate weight to learn proper stabilization
  • Excellent for injury prevention and functional core strength

Recommended starting values

Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
