Ring Advanced Tuck Planche
An extreme calisthenics static hold on rings where the body is horizontal and face-down with a tucked position, demanding exceptional shoulder stability and pressing strength.
Instructions
- Start from a ring support hold with your arms straight and shoulders engaged.
- Shift your weight forward gradually, allowing your body to tip toward horizontal.
- Tuck your knees toward your chest to reduce the difficulty leverage.
- Press through the rings to maintain a position parallel to the ground, with your body face-down.
- Keep your shoulders packed and engaged with maximum tension throughout the hold.
- Maintain steady breathing and rigid core bracing for the duration of the hold.
- Return to vertical by pressing upward and dropping your legs.
Tips
- This is an elite movement requiring years of progressive training
- Only attempt after building extensive ring strength through foundational movements
- The tuck position is much more manageable than a full planche, but still extremely difficult
- Your shoulder stability must be exceptional; shoulder pain indicates you’re not ready
- Press downward and slightly backward through the rings for optimal positioning
- Keep your hips level with your shoulders and core maximally braced
- Practice 1-2 times per week maximum; recovery is critical at this intensity level
- Consider ring planche progressions using straps or resistance bands before free holds
- This is an advanced gymnastics movement; seek proper coaching if pursuing this goal
- Many athletes train for 2-3+ years before achieving a stable hold in this position
Recommended starting values
Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
