Primary Muscles

An advanced horizontal hold on rings with legs straddled for stability. The body is held parallel to the ground facing downward with arms extended, demanding significant pushing and core strength.

Instructions

  1. Begin seated on the rings with legs extended in a straddle position.
  2. Shift your weight forward and press into the rings, lifting your body off the ground.
  3. Extend your arms to achieve a horizontal body position parallel to the ground, face down.
  4. Maintain a straight line from head to feet with legs straddled for balance.
  5. Keep the rings turned out for additional mechanical leverage.
  6. Hold this position for the desired duration while maintaining constant tension.
  7. Lower your body carefully back to a seated or hanging position.

Tips

  • The straddle position significantly reduces difficulty compared to straight body planche.
  • Lean forward progressively to find your balance point.
  • Engage your core and chest musculature throughout the hold.
  • Ring turnout creates better leverage—rotate your hands outward.
  • Build hold duration gradually to develop the necessary strength safely.

Recommended starting values

Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
