Primary Muscles

A progression toward full planche hold performed on rings with the body horizontal and legs tucked for reduced difficulty. Builds pushing and core strength.

Instructions

  1. Begin seated on the rings with legs tucked.
  2. Shift your weight forward and press into the rings, lifting your body off the ground.
  3. Extend your arms while maintaining knees tucked to achieve a horizontal body position.
  4. Keep your body parallel to the ground, face down, with straight arms.
  5. Maintain constant tension in your chest, shoulders, and core.
  6. Hold this position for the desired duration.
  7. Lower your body carefully back to a seated or ground position.

Tips

  • Tuck position significantly reduces difficulty compared to full planche.
  • Lean forward progressively to find your balance point.
  • Ring turnout creates mechanical advantage for leverage.
  • Engage your chest and shoulders throughout the hold.
  • Gradually extend legs as strength improves toward full planche.

Recommended starting values

Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
