Side Bend (Dumbbell)

A lateral flexion exercise targeting the obliques and abs using a dumbbell held on one side. Bend at the waist to the opposite side against the load.
Instructions
- Stand up straight while holding a dumbbell in your left hand (palms facing the torso) and place your right hand behind your head or across your chest. Your feet should be placed at shoulder width. This will be your starting position.
- While keeping your back straight and your head up, bend only at the waist to the right as far as possible. Breathe in as you bend to the side. Then hold for a second and come back up to the starting position as you exhale.
- Tip: Keep the rest of the body stationary and avoid rotating.
- Now repeat the movement but with the dumbbell in your right hand, bending to the left.
- Hold for a second and come back to the starting position.
- Repeat for the recommended amount of repetitions and then change hands.
Tips
- Keep your torso rigid; avoid rotating or twisting.
- Perform the movement through a full range of motion for maximum muscle activation.
- Move slowly and controlled to emphasize the obliques and core muscles.
- Keep your head in a neutral position; don’t let it tilt excessively.
- This exercise can be performed with both dumbbells for increased difficulty.
- Alternating sides ensures balanced core development.
