Machine Bicep CurlMachine Bicep Curl

A beginner-friendly isolation exercise for bicep development using a dedicated machine, providing stable, controlled bicep training.

Instructions

  1. Adjust the seat height to an appropriate level and select your desired weight.
  2. Place your upper arms flat against the pads of the machine, keeping them stationary throughout the movement.
  3. Grasp the handles with an underhand grip (palms facing upward) at shoulder-width.
  4. Keep your torso upright and back firmly against the seat pad; this is your starting position.
  5. Perform the movement by flexing your elbows and pulling your lower arm toward your upper arm.
  6. Continue the curl until your biceps are fully contracted and your hands are near your shoulders.
  7. Pause at the top of the movement and feel a strong bicep squeeze for a second.
  8. Slowly return the weight to the starting position in a controlled manner.
  9. Avoid returning the weight all the way to the mechanical stops until the set is complete to keep continuous tension on the biceps.
  10. Repeat for the recommended amount of repetitions.

Tips

  • Keep your upper arms flat against the pads throughout; avoid lifting your elbows, which reduces bicep isolation.
  • Move deliberately and controlled; avoid jerking the handles, which reduces bicep engagement and increases injury risk.
  • The machine design provides stability, eliminating the need to stabilize the weight, allowing pure bicep focus.
  • Lower the weight slowly with control; the eccentric (lowering) phase is crucial for bicep development and muscle growth.
  • Avoid locking out at the bottom of each repetition; maintain continuous tension on the biceps throughout the set.
  • This machine is excellent for beginners learning proper bicep curl form before progressing to free weights.

Recommended starting values

Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
