Seated Close-Grip Concentration Barbell CurlSeated Close-Grip Concentration Barbell Curl

A strict biceps isolation exercise with fixed upper arms that develops peak bicep contraction and inner head emphasis.

Instructions

  1. Sit on a flat bench with your legs spread at shoulder width and feet planted on the floor.
  2. Place a barbell or EZ-curl bar in front of you between your legs on the ground.
  3. Bend forward and grip the barbell with a supinated grip (palms facing up), positioning your hands closer than shoulder width.
  4. Lift the barbell and position the back of your upper arms on your inner thighs, approximately 3-4 inches from the front of your knees.
  5. Your arms should be extended at arm’s length with the barbell above the ground. This is your starting position.
  6. While keeping your upper arms stationary against your thighs, curl the weight forward.
  7. Contract your biceps as you breathe out and lift the barbell toward your shoulders.
  8. Continue the movement until your biceps are fully contracted and the barbell reaches shoulder level.
  9. Hold the contracted position for one second and squeeze your biceps hard.
  10. Slowly lower the barbell back to the starting position while breathing in.
  11. Avoid swinging motions at any time during the exercise.
  12. Repeat for the prescribed number of repetitions.

Tips

  • The fixed position of your upper arms against your thighs creates intense bicep isolation
  • This exercise is excellent for peak contraction development
  • Using an EZ-curl bar reduces wrist strain compared to a straight barbell
  • Maintain strict form—avoid using momentum or body movement to lift the weight
  • The close grip emphasizes the inner head of the biceps
  • This is an advanced isolation movement best performed with moderate weight

Recommended starting values
