A suspended row variation where you shift your weight side-to-side, mimicking typing. Builds back strength and rotational stability.

Instructions

  1. Set up with a suspension trainer or rings at a suitable height for your fitness level.
  2. Face the anchor point and grasp the handles, leaning back to create tension in your body.
  3. Pull yourself toward the handles in a rowing motion, bringing your elbow to your side.
  4. At the top, shift your weight to one side, rotating your torso slightly.
  5. Lower back to the starting position and repeat.
  6. Alternate sides with each repetition, creating a typewriter-like movement pattern.

Tips

  • Keep your body in a straight line from heels to head throughout the movement.
  • Engage your core to prevent rotation from becoming excessive.
  • Start at a shallower angle and gradually increase difficulty by leaning more horizontal.
  • Squeeze your shoulder blades together at the top of each rep.
  • Control the movement both during the pull and the return to maintain tension.

Recommended starting values

Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
