Secondary Muscles

An explosive plyometric exercise performed while holding dumbbells to increase load and develop lower body power and athletic performance.

Instructions

  1. Stand facing a box or elevated platform at a comfortable distance, holding a dumbbell in each hand at your sides.
  2. Swing your arms backward while bending your knees and hips to prepare for the jump (quarter squat position).
  3. Explosively drive through your heels, swinging your arms forward and upward to propel your body onto the box.
  4. Land softly on the box with bent knees, allowing the dumbbells to hang at your sides.
  5. Stand up fully on top of the box.
  6. Step down carefully from the box one foot at a time to the starting position.

Tips

  • Land with bent knees to absorb impact and protect your joints
  • Use arm swing to generate momentum and assistance for the jump
  • Keep your chest upright and core engaged throughout the movement
  • Land in the middle of the box for safety; avoid landing near the edges
  • Choose a box height where you can land safely and maintain control
  • Start with a lighter load or no dumbbells to master the technique before adding weight

Recommended starting values
