An advanced full-body compound exercise combining a clean, front squat, and overhead press in one fluid motion for maximum power and strength development.

Instructions

  1. Begin standing with dumbbells on the floor at shoulder width, feet hip-width apart.
  2. Drive explosively through your heels, extending your hips, knees, and ankles to pull the dumbbells upward.
  3. Catch the dumbbells on your shoulders in a squat position.
  4. Continue descending into a full front squat, with dumbbells resting on your shoulders and elbows high.
  5. Drive through your heels to stand up from the squat.
  6. As you stand, use the momentum to press the dumbbells overhead.
  7. Lower the dumbbells back to shoulder height and lower them to the floor.

Tips

  • This is a complex exercise requiring strength and coordination throughout all phases
  • The explosive drive from the squat should carry into the press portion
  • Maintain an upright torso during the squat to maximize leg drive into the press
  • Use lighter weights to practice the transitions between the clean, squat, and press
  • Breathe during the squat position and brace before the pressing phase
  • This exercise combines significant muscular demands; ensure adequate recovery between sets
  • Proper form is critical; do not let the dumbbells drift away from your body

Recommended starting values
