Full Range-Of-Motion Lat PulldownFull Range-Of-Motion Lat Pulldown

A latissimus dorsi compound exercise using cable attachments, where the arms pull in an arcing motion through an extended range to emphasize a complete contraction and muscle stretch.

Instructions

  1. Stand or sit on a high bench facing the cable machine with high pulleys.
  2. Grasp two stirrup cable handles using an opposing hand grip (right hand on left cable and vice versa).
  3. Your arms should be crossed in front of your body with palms facing forward at the starting position.
  4. Keep your chest up and maintain a slight arch in your lower back throughout the movement.
  5. Pull both handles downward in an arcing motion as if performing a regular pulldown.
  6. Rotate your hands during the movement so your palms face each other at the bottom position.
  7. The range of motion follows an arc rather than a straight vertical line.
  8. Return slowly to the starting position with control, maintaining tension on your lats.

Tips

  • The crossing and rotation of your hands throughout the movement provides a unique stimulus.
  • Keep your chest up and back arched to maximize latissimus involvement throughout the movement.
  • The arc motion provides excellent muscle engagement through a complete range of motion.
  • Perform the movement deliberately and with control to maximize muscle tension and development.
  • The hand rotation throughout the movement creates a unique stretch and contraction pattern.
  • This variation provides excellent results for lat development and back thickness.
