Primary Muscles

A unilateral lat pulldown machine that allows independent arm movement for each side. Excellent for addressing strength imbalances and providing focused lat development.

Instructions

  1. Sit in the machine with the handles at approximately chest height.
  2. Grip the handles with both hands using a neutral or slightly angled grip.
  3. Adjust the seat height so handles are aligned with the upper chest area.
  4. Engage your core and maintain an upright posture against the backrest.
  5. Pull the handles down toward your chest by driving with your elbows.
  6. Feel the contraction in your lats as you reach full range of motion.
  7. Slowly return the handles to the starting position with control.
  8. The machine allows each arm to work independently, engaging one side at a time.

Tips

  • The iso-lateral (independent) design helps identify and address side-to-side strength imbalances.
  • Drive with your elbows to maximize lat engagement rather than pulling with your hands.
  • Maintain contact with the backrest for proper form and spinal stability.
  • The guided machine path reduces the stability demands compared to free weights.
  • Use a weight that allows full range of motion with controlled movement.
  • Perform equal reps on each side to maintain balanced strength development.

Recommended starting values

Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
