Primary Muscles

A rope climbing progression starting from a seated position on the ground, eliminating the initial jump and making the movement more accessible for beginners developing rope climbing skills.

Instructions

  1. Sit on the ground beneath the rope with the rope directly in front of you.
  2. Grab the rope with both hands at approximately chest height.
  3. Using your legs, wrap the rope around one foot or both feet to secure it.
  4. Pull yourself upward using your arms while pressing with your feet against the rope.
  5. As you gain height, reach higher up the rope with your hands.
  6. Continue climbing by alternating the pulling motion with secure foot placement.
  7. Progress upward until you’ve climbed the desired height.

Tips

  • The seated start eliminates the need for explosive jumping, making this beginner-friendly.
  • Develop rope wrapping technique before progressing to standing climbs.
  • This is an excellent foundational movement for rope climbing progression.
  • Focus on efficient technique rather than speed.
  • Gradually progress to standing starts as strength and confidence increase.
