Bent PressBent Press

An advanced kettlebell exercise combining a lateral lean with overhead pressing to develop shoulder stability and core strength under challenging conditions.

Instructions

  1. Clean a kettlebell to your shoulder by extending through the legs and hips, rotating your wrist as you raise the kettlebell. Keep your eyes on the kettlebell throughout.
  2. Press the kettlebell vertically overhead while beginning to lean to the side opposite the kettlebell.
  3. Continue leaning sideways until your free hand can touch the ground, keeping the kettlebell pressed vertically throughout.
  4. Maintain an upright torso except for the lateral lean, engaging your core for stability.
  5. Press back to center and return to the standing position with the kettlebell overhead.
  6. Lower the kettlebell to your shoulder.
  7. Repeat for the desired reps, then switch sides.
  8. This exercise demands significant core stability and single-sided pressing power.

Tips

  • Keep the kettlebell locked out vertically throughout the lean—do not let it drift forward or backward
  • Maintain a strong core brace to prevent excessive spinal extension during the lateral lean
  • Look up at the kettlebell to ensure it stays stable overhead
  • Start with lighter kettlebells to master the movement pattern before progressing
  • This is an advanced movement requiring excellent shoulder stability and core strength
  • Practice the movement slowly before adding speed or heavier weights
