Equipment
trap bar

A pressing exercise using a trap bar set at approximately knee to hip height as a fixed handle platform, reducing range of motion compared to floor push-ups.

Instructions

  1. Position a trap bar at approximately knee to hip height in a rack.
  2. Place your hands on the handles with a neutral grip, slightly wider than shoulder-width.
  3. Step back into a push-up position with your body in a straight line.
  4. Engage your core and maintain a neutral spine.
  5. Lower your body toward the bar by bending your elbows.
  6. Stop when your chest nearly touches the bar.
  7. Press yourself back up to the starting position.
  8. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Tips

  • The elevated bar reduces range of motion, making this easier than floor push-ups.
  • Keep your body in a straight line from head to heels.
  • Lower your body under control and avoid dropping quickly.
  • This variation is excellent for progressively loading push-ups.
  • Elevating the bar makes push-ups accessible for various fitness levels.
