calisthenics Secondary Muscles
A calisthenics movement where you move backward on your hands and feet in a bear crawl position, building upper body and core strength while improving mobility.
Instructions
- Start on your hands and feet with your hips high, similar to a bear crawl position, facing the direction you will be moving backward.
- Position your hands under your shoulders and your feet hip-width apart, with your toes on the ground.
- Keep your core engaged and your back flat throughout the movement.
- Slowly move backward by stepping one foot back while maintaining the bear crawl position.
- Follow with the opposite side hand and foot in a contralateral pattern (right foot with left hand, etc.).
- Continue moving backward for the desired distance or time.
- Maintain tension in your core and shoulders throughout the movement.
- Keep your hips level and avoid rotating your torso.
Tips
- Move slowly and deliberately to maintain proper form and maximize core engagement.
- Keep your head in a neutral position looking slightly downward to protect your neck.
- The reverse direction challenges balance and proprioception differently than forward crawling.
- This exercise is excellent for shoulder stability and overhead pressing strength development.
- Perform on a padded surface like a gym mat to reduce stress on wrists and hands.
- This is a great warm-up or conditioning exercise for athletic training.
