Front Two-Dumbbell RaiseFront Two-Dumbbell Raise

An anterior deltoid isolation exercise using two dumbbells raised simultaneously from waist level to shoulder height, providing a simpler alternative to alternating raises.

Instructions

  1. Stand with your feet at shoulder-width apart, maintaining good posture.
  2. Hold a dumbbell in each hand with your arms hanging straight down at your sides.
  3. Position your palms facing your thighs and maintain a slight bend in your elbows.
  4. Keep your torso completely stationary and your core engaged throughout the movement.
  5. Raise both dumbbells simultaneously upward in front of your body using a smooth motion.
  6. Continue raising until the dumbbells reach approximately shoulder height.
  7. Keep your palms facing downward throughout the entire range of motion.
  8. Pause briefly at the top and squeeze your anterior deltoids before lowering the weights.

Tips

  • Maintain constant tension by controlling both the lift and lowering phases of the movement.
  • Avoid using momentum or swinging; let your shoulder muscles perform the work.
  • Your core should remain engaged to prevent your lower back from overextending.
  • Perform the movement slowly and deliberately for maximum muscle engagement.
  • The simultaneous movement of both arms makes this variation simpler than alternating raises.
  • You can adjust dumbbell weight independently for each side to address imbalances.

Recommended starting values

Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
