Primary Muscles

A shoulder isolation exercise where a weight plate is held with both hands and raised from waist to shoulder height, targeting the anterior deltoids.

Instructions

  1. Stand upright with your feet shoulder-width apart and your core engaged.
  2. Hold a weight plate with both hands at waist height, arms relaxed in front of your thighs.
  3. The plate should be held with your hands on opposite edges or with both hands gripping the side.
  4. Inhale to prepare and maintain a neutral spine.
  5. Exhale and raise the plate upward in front of your body to shoulder height.
  6. Maintain a slight bend in your elbows throughout the movement; do not lock them out.
  7. Pause briefly at the top of the movement, feeling the contraction in your shoulders.
  8. Inhale and lower the plate back down to waist height with control.
  9. Repeat for the prescribed number of repetitions.

Tips

  • Keep your elbows slightly bent throughout the entire movement to reduce joint stress.
  • Avoid swinging the plate or using momentum; move with control.
  • Maintain an upright posture and avoid leaning back as you raise the plate.
  • Engage your core throughout to support your spine and prevent excessive back arching.
  • This isolation exercise is excellent for building shoulder strength and muscular endurance.
  • Use a moderate weight that allows for controlled repetitions with good form.
  • Breathe steadily throughout; exhale as you raise the plate.
