Secondary Muscles
A powerful overhead pressing movement where you drive the kettlebells upward using momentum from your legs before pressing out with your arms.
Instructions
- Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, holding two kettlebells racked at your shoulders with elbows under the bells.
- Bend your knees slightly in a quarter squat position, loading your legs with energy.
- Explosively extend your hips and knees, driving upward powerfully from your legs.
- As you drive upward with your legs, press the kettlebells overhead by extending your arms fully.
- Lock out the kettlebells at the top with your arms extended, shoulders shrugged slightly.
- Lower the kettlebells back to shoulder height under control.
- Repeat for the desired number of repetitions without resting between reps.
Tips
- The power comes from your legs; use the leg drive to assist the pressing movement.
- Keep your core braced throughout to maintain spinal stability during the overhead press.
- Ensure the kettlebells remain racked at your shoulders between repetitions.
- Do not allow your lumbar spine to arch excessively; maintain a neutral spine position.
- Breathe in during the dip and exhale forcefully as you drive upward and press.
- This exercise builds strength in the shoulders and develops explosive power.
- Perfect the timing of the leg drive and arm press to maximize efficiency and power output.
Recommended starting values
Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
