A battle rope exercise where the ropes are moved in circular motions around the body, targeting the shoulders and building muscular endurance.

Instructions

  1. Position yourself at the center point of anchored battle ropes, approximately 15-20 feet away, taking one end in each hand.
  2. Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and arms at your sides holding the ropes.
  3. Begin making large circular motions with both ropes simultaneously, rotating them around your body in one direction.
  4. Complete circular rotations as rapidly as possible while maintaining control.
  5. After the prescribed time duration, reverse direction and repeat.

Tips

  • Make large, controlled circles rather than small, tight movements.
  • Keep your core engaged to maintain stability during the circular motions.
  • Move from your shoulders rather than swinging your entire arms.
  • Start in one direction, then reverse for balanced shoulder development.
  • This variation provides a different stimulus than up-down and lateral movements.

Recommended starting values

Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.

Goal Sets Hold
Gain strength 3 25 s
Build muscle 3 40 s
Build endurance 3 1 min
